A BRIEF HISTORY

A BRIEF HISTORY OF PRME
The Center for Eco-Material Manufacturing Engineering (PRME) at the Faculty of Engineering, Yogyakarta State University, was established as a center of excellence focused on the development of manufacturing engineering based on environmentally friendly and sustainable materials. PRME at the Faculty of Engineering, Yogyakarta State University, was born out of a strategic need to address global challenges related to resource efficiency, environmental impact reduction, and strengthening green technology innovation in engineering and manufacturing. Since its inception, PRME has been designed to serve as a platform for integrating education, research, and community service activities focused on eco-materials, sustainable manufacturing technology, and the application of circular economy principles. Through PRME, the Faculty of Engineering, Yogyakarta State University, encourages multidisciplinary collaboration between faculty, students, industry, and external partners to produce innovative and competitive applied research, prototypes, and manufacturing solutions. PRME at the Faculty of Engineering, Yogyakarta State University, is expected to be a driving force for the development of environmentally friendly manufacturing technology while supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the national and global levels.
PRME at the Faculty of Engineering, Yogyakarta State University, has a strategic research focus on developing technologies and products in the transportation and sports sectors based on eco-materials and sustainable manufacturing engineering. In the transportation sector, research is directed at developing lightweight, strong, and environmentally friendly components and structures, such as vehicle frames, micromobility systems, and natural fiber-based composite materials for sustainable transportation applications. Meanwhile, in the sports sector, PRME develops innovative sports equipment and facilities that prioritize safety, performance, ergonomics, and environmental sustainability, through the use of green materials and efficient manufacturing processes.
Furthermore, PRME, Faculty of Engineering, UNY, places significant emphasis on learning and materials as a foundation for strengthening human resource capacity and technological innovation. Learning research focuses on developing adaptive, project-based engineering and manufacturing learning models, media, and tools that are integrated with sustainability and green industry issues. In the materials sector, PRME develops and characterizes eco-materials, composite materials, functional materials, and locally sourced materials with potential applications in various industrial sectors. The synergy of these four research areas makes PRME, Faculty of Engineering, UNY, a holistic research center supporting the development of sustainable manufacturing technology and innovation based on community needs.
